A longer handle may also provide useful leverage, making some pushing, pulling, and lifting actions feel easier.

Length alone is not a cure for discomfort, however. A handle that is too long, heavy, or poorly balanced can create new problems in the shoulders, wrists, and arms. The most comfortable tool is one that fits both the user and the job.

Forward Bending Places More Demand on the Back

The lower back does not work alone during yard maintenance. Muscles in the abdomen, hips, legs, shoulders, and back cooperate to support the trunk and control movement.
